I had a call from my husband. His stepdad Ray, who was 95 and not doing well for the past few weeks, passed away a few minutes after Hayward arrived to visit him. Funny how you are always surprised when someone passes away, even when they have lived their life and are ready to go. Ray married Hayward’s mom when they were 72. She had a stroke and he took very good care of her for three years. Ray came to live with us when he was 90 for a year and a half when he started needing more help. It was always an adventure having him there and I learned a lot about aging and living with dignity. RIP Raymond Sullivan…
I will be ending my tour a little early to drive to his funeral on June 23 in NJ.
But meanwhile I am here and the show must go on…
Today I was at Beautiful Impressions for the Grand Re-Opening teaching a fun little washi (or as some people have called it -wasabi – much more fun name!) tape Recipe Book using my Sizzix Canning Jar die.
I also was very pleased to meet an amazing artist, Vin (who made the sign below)…
Mad I can’t remember his last name but am too lazy to run out to the camper to find it- who demo’d colored pencils and calligraphy. He had the whole place gathered around watching him- I learned a lot and now I want some colored pencils to play with!
Ann and I attempting to take a double selfie and not doing too well 🙂
A pic of me and the new owner of Beautiful Impressions, Mary Callan. (and Scotty of course…
Scotty took a hit and I don’t know who did it or when. I just noticed today that a light cover is off the top left part of the camper and the little metal awning over the door is pulled off on one corner. I think I would have felt that if I were in the truck which makes me think someone did it while I was parked… boo on them…
Went out in the camper to get something and snapped a picture of the pretty banner given to me by CardMonkey Jarvis on the beginning of the trip and curtains made by the lovely Lorine Mason before I left.
Stopped in Joann’s and found fleece on sale. Have ideas for a future class!
I am happy to share this Mini- Album demo from Inspiration Emporium filmed by Natasha Hensel. She has quite an impressive library of You Tube videos and I can’t wait to take a look at some of them…
OK, I know you are all waiting to hear about where I stayed for the past two days… That would be the Westbrook Inn B&B! Now I have hit the opposite end of the spectrum from the Motel 6 and Travelodge! Here are the grounds… they are dark because I hardly spent any time here and took them at night…it was quite elegant…
Working on a Sizzix video tonight and getting ready for another demo and class tomorrow…
Thanks for following me on the #PaperTrail!

Love this newsy post but so sorry about your Father-in-Law, even though he was a good age, it is always so sad when someone close dies. I watched the video from FB, you are very relaxed in front of the camera!
Love th gorgeous colours of the fleece and also love that dress form in your room too. Have a great weekend. Anne x

Anne, thanks – you are kind. Yes, it is sad even though we were expecting it. I had hoped he would hang on until I got back but he just went downhill very fast. He was just done- stopped eating and drinking and faded away. The video was a mess! It cracks me up when I watched it! Have a great weekend too!

Have you ever seen “penny rugs”? They are made with fleece. They call them penny rugs cause way back when…the early american days…they had rugs with pennies in them. They would be put in front of the fire and the pennies would warm up the rugs and then ofcourse….feet. Now the “penny rugs” have become banners or placemats…table runners whatever. The “pennies” are represented by something round like flower centers or maybe even scotty wheels 🙂 They are generally made with fleece. Google when you get a chance.
eileen says
Sue I have read about penny rugs but not actually seen any in person. I will check them out… I have the fleece!

I stopped by the house to see Hayward today. He is dynamo and was cleaning out the van to pick up some seniors for a Senior Prom event put on by the Herndon Rotary Club. I am sure the ladies will be wanting him to dance with them all afternoon. What a guy! He is doing well and your yard is beautiful. Have fun beany….
eileen says
Thanks for taking care of Hayward BFF! He had a fun time at the Senior Senior Prom- I didn’t hear about any dancing but he probably doesn’t want me to be jealous. See you!

Awww, I am sorry to learn of Ray’s passing, though how wonderful that he had so many nice years both in the love and care of your mother-in-law, and later with you and Hayward. How lucky you all were to have each other. Condolences to all. Very sweet that the funeral will be held so that you can attend; these things happen and timing is in God’s hands. And I am sure Hayward is missing you as much as you’re missing the hot tub! 🙂
..and it was great to see that you’re FINALLY in a comfy-looking B&B — MUCH more your style than Motel 2.50!!
And POX on the cretin who harmed Scotty!! Shame, shame on him/her!
Fondly,
Ellen/ CardMonkey

CardMonkey your comments always brighten my day! Thanks Ray was a good guy and it always sad when someone dies, even when you know it will happen. And you would think the B&B was comfy but not really. I now realize that a B&B would be great for a vacation but not so much for work. I was there working the whole time and didn’t even have breakfast- I will give them credit- they gave me a diet Coke before I checked out… And yes, I echo your POX on the cretin (unless somehow it was me and I ran into something and didn’t realize!) I don’t think so though… no baby yet?

Eileen – so sorry to hear about your father in law, may the Lord be with your family. Sounds like he had a wonderfully long life.
Looks like you had another wonderful adventure at Beautiful Impressions though. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

Thanks Claudine- he went very peacefully so that was a good thing…honestly almost every day on this trip has been an adventure one way or another 🙂

So sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks Barb. Got the news right after I left your place…

I can’t believe I missed seeing this post before now, Bean! R.I.P. Ray. What a guy! And much love and warm thoughts to you and Hayward for being there for Ray, too.
Lots more I want to comment on. But I think we need to chat or text or talk. About this upcoming weekend…and your changes in plan. I’m completely flexible and can wait until fall to see you if this is best for your new plan to cut your PaperTrail short.
That is such a BUMMER about Scotty’s dings. Boo! Hiss! Stuff happens. Glad you’re okay.
Loved the lettering on that sign and you’ll have to share more about the man’s color pencil techniques…so cool!
Beautiful places you’ve been visiting and terrific people, too! Thanks for all the sharing,
Stay safe!
