Guest Designer: Susie Bentz

Hi friends- I am happy to introduce a new feature to the blog! Every other Friday you will see the work of a featured Guest Designer.

Today we will meet Susie Bentz. She lives fairly close to me but I have only gotten to know her in the past year or so. Her work is exquisite. She helped me with some samples for my last release and I was fascinated to watch how she works… First of all- she was very comfortable putting together a 12″ x 12″ layout. That would take me a week!

She also thinks about how she wants to do something before actually doing it! This is revolutionary- (I am more of a “Let’s put it here and see how it looks” kind of person). Susie is one of those people that has a great eye for composition as I think you will see from her work. She has a clean style that is very pleasing to the eye and I love seeing everything she creates.

My Little Seamstress

Today I am sharing a layout I created using some new sewing themed dies designed by Eileen Hull for Sizzix.  I love using dies to create custom embellishments for my layouts!  It is one way to make sure that my pages are just a little bit different!   I paired the die cuts with the Sew Lovely Collection from Carta Bella – perfect for My Little Seamstress!

I used the Flower and Leaf Stitchlits to create this little bouquet!  The Thinlits dies cut through paper, fabric, foam, leather, denim, canvas and felt!  I used multiple colors of felt for the flowers and leaves and used a green canvas for the stems.

If you take a close look you can see that two of the stems are pierced.  This die system allows you the option of cutting solid or pierced elements – stems, flowers or leaves – so that if you wanted to add a little stitching detail it is super easy!

For the background,  I tore a piece of paper off of a real sewing pattern I was done with and adhered it along the left side.  On top of that I layered a strip of washi that looks like a mearsuring tape and some pieces cut from the Border Strips page.  I sprinkled stickers from the Element Stickers sheet and more felt flowers around the layout.

My favorite element on the page has to be the die cut Embroidery Hoop!  I covered mat board with wood grain paper before I cut it out.  In the center, I used the Handmade Label die to cut the words from green and pink cardstock.  I used the same die set to emboss cream cardstock then layered the letters on top.  Finally I hand colored the heart in the center and added pen stitching.

    Susie’s layout is beautiful Eileen and really showcases your new stitchlit dies perfectly! I love how Susie added the buttons and the embroidery ring looks so realistic with the wood paper covering. Really wonderful and it is such a great idea to have feature artists as your guests! Anne x

      It almost makes me think I could do a layout Anne although I am challenged with that much space to fill. I love Susie’s and also that she agreed to be our first Guest Designer!
