August Theme: Old Project, New Twist with Eileen Hull Sizzix Dies

12 Aug

The Creative Team theme for August is “Old Project, New Twist”. Designers are drawing inspiration from past projects and interpreting them in a new way. I’m excited to see what they all come up with! Let’s check out the inspiration so far…

Sarah Lizzie created a beautiful birthday card for her Mum using Eileen’s Stitched Hearts, Page Edges and Nora Numbers Die Sets. That color palette is so lovely! Find all the details here.

Pam Bray used the “old” Treasure Box Die and “new” Garden Gate Album Die to create a box filled with wonderful floral tags! You can find the tutorial in her post.

Jennie Atkinson just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary! She took an old tag project she had made and reinvented it as a celebratory heart using Eileen’s Stitched Hearts Die Set and Lace Embossing Folder. Beautiful! (and congratulations to Jennie and Terry)

Lisa Hoel is revisiting a UFO project from six years ago. She is making a new Wonder Woman themed junk journal in a larger size by using the Full Size Journal Die instead of the original Journal Die she had started with. This is Part 1 of the project – the cover, details here! Stay tuned for more…

FLASHBACK PROJECT!

Lisa also has some summertime 3-D Truck and Camper Die inspiration for you! She made tag journals about all the family camping trips they’ve taken over the years and the camper and truck are perfect holders for them. You can see all the details here.

NEWS from Eileen…

Last Wednesday I took off for CT to watch four of my grandkids, their two dogs, chickens, turkeys, lizard and new bunny. It was a busy week and a LOT of driving, but so worth it. We don’t see them a lot because of the distance but for those few days, I got a snapshot of their lives and it was so fun to be part of it. Then my husband tag-teamed me and stayed and I took off to see my Mom in NY with a stop to see my Aunt Ann who lives along the way. Mom is doing well and will be celebrating her 92nd birthday next week.

Yesterday I learned my friend Marla had lost her fight with pancreatic cancer. We had such a nice visit back in June. She will be so missed – she was a bright light in my life and it’s hard to believe she is really gone.

ART THERAPY TIME

I just learned what goes into a Commonplace Book and I am dying to make one! I decided to use my Sizzix Journal die but really any size will work. You can watch last week’s video HERE. I considered using the Field Notes & Specimen Card die cover that we created on last week’s live, but wanted to make it bigger and in portrait orientation.

We will make a simple cover (maybe fabric?) and concentrate on the pages. Do white pages intimidate you? l’ll show some options to remedy that and also a few ways this book could be laid out. Join me to hear all about it!

Am I CRAZY?

I am going to try and do a reel every day in August on Instagram and Facebook. OK, turns out yes, I am crazy 🙂 It’s hard to do while on the road and still get sleep. But I am back home and will try again!

Remember, I’ll have a booth at the Garlic Festival in Saugerties, N.Y. coming up the last weekend in September. If you live nearby, please come and say hi!

28 Jul

The Creative Team July project theme was “Summer Vibes”. It’s been a month full of inspiration and this week is our summer project wrap up. Check out the inspiration and the July round up video!

Lisa Hoel finished her Yellowstone National Park vacation journal. Whew! She used the Full Size Journal Die for the base and filled it with photos, postcards, ephemera and of course used many of Eileen’s other die sets and stamps. You can find all the project photos here.

Flashback Summer Projects!

Jenny Marples has a rustic summer sea project she made with the Stacking Drawers Die. These delightful little boxes can hold candies or other treats. Wouldn’t they make wonderful party favors? Find the tutorial here.

Designer Jennie Atkinson is sharing a beautiful floral flashback project – a Tea Cup flower journal. Fabulous! Find all the details here.

Nothing says summer like sunflowers! Lisa Hoel made a summery accordion album to fit inside of a case made with the Skinny Mini Book Box Die (also the Mini Slimline & Tickets Die Set). Find all the details here.

Summer Vibes Wrap Up!

News from Eileen Hull…

I hope your summers are going well! The heat has eased off a little here in Virginia, thankfully.

I want to thank you for your patience, support, encouragement and having my back over the past few months. My family and I have have been through several surgeries, my husband’s retirement, a trailer renovation and other events/situations that I needed to deal with. All of those things are/were important.

For the past four years I have been going live twice a week. I cut the Thursday one and now go live on Tuesdays at 4:00 Eastern and I welcome you to join us! I also want to thank all of you have been following my health issues and sharing your experiences too. It makes things less scary when you know that others have been through it also.

So after taking the time off, I am ready to get back into it 😍. I have a new product coming out that I am very excited about and I can tell you more about that soon!

Today Margaret and I are going live using the Stitched Hearts die. Margaret has some great ideas up her sleeve and I have some things to try too so gather your supplies and create along with us! And if you make something, we would love to see it posted in the Eileen Hull Fan Club .

I am starting to gear up for the Garlic Festival in Saugerties, N.Y. coming up in September. Can I ask – when you go to an event like this, what are you looking for? Christmas presents? Everyday gifts? Things for you? Clothing or handmade accessories? Jewelry? I’d like to hear from you!

More Sizzix “Summer Vibes” with Eileen Hull

23 Jul

The July project theme for the Creative Team is “Summer Vibes”. There are so many possibilities! The team will be creating using current and older dies, so keep an eye out for some inspiring summer ideas and projects – gardens, flowers, beach, sea, travel, sunshine… Let’s check out this week’s inspiration:

Jenny Marples has a fabulous technique to share! Check out the lovely watercolor summer flowers she made in her video below. I can’t wait to see these incoporated into her W.I.P. Garden Gate journal…

Tonya Trantham has been busy at work this month making a summery mini tag album using the Ephemera Pocket & Tags Die Set for the base (plus many other Eileen Die Sets!) You can find all the details in her posts, Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Here’s a peek:

Designer Elizabeth Robinson made good use of the Ephemera Pocket & Tags, Stitched Hearts and Watercolour Bouquet Embossing Folder to create this fresh floral card. Tonya approves of the pom-pom trim lol.

News from Eileen…

It was a crazy weekend – a miracle, some bad news and I had yet another medical “procedure” today! I’m looking forward to a normal rest of the week 🙂 I hope you all are enjoying the summer. I’ve been puttering around in my studio – it’s in the basement so it is nice and cool.

Last week there was a request for a tutorial on how to assemble the Garden Gate Album die that came out in May. I shared ideas for what can be made with this versatile Bigz XL die and different construction alternatives.

I’m also excited to introduce Guest Designer Jill Patel who joined me! Here’s a little about her:

I’ve loved art and crafting from a young age – I’ve dabbled in everything from painting and embroidery to digital art and cardmaking. Since becoming a mom, my priorities have shifted, but I still make time to create, drawing inspiration from the world around me. Cardmaking and scrapbooking has become one of the best creative outlets, and I’m excited to keep learning new techniques and better ways to share my passion.

I post regularly on my Instagram and also have started a YouTube channel – please subscribe!

I love Jill’s style and am always inspired to see what others are making with my dies. Here are some samples of her gorgeous work featuring

  • Swatch Card Stamp Set
  • Sizzix Thinlits Windowsill Vase and Flowers
  • Lacy Leaves Embossing Folder

At the end of September, I’ll be headed up to NY! My sister Kathy invited me to do the Garlic Festival in Saugerties, N.Y. with her. My three sisters, me and Mom shared a booth for five years running in the early 2000’s at this event – selling handmade fleece hats, scarves and accessories. We loved getting together for this reunion to visit, work and hopefully make a little money. It’s been a while since I have done a show like this but I am excited. I will be selling some leather finished pieces, small watercolors, journal kits and whatever else I am inspired to make 🙂 If you live anywhere nearby, I hope you will come and see us!

My friend Marla is in hospice. We met about 35 years ago when we were stationed at Ft. Drum, NY. Being with her was always an adventure – whether it was antiquing, auctions, managing our husband’s deployments, craft fairs, parties or just talking about our kids, funny things that happened or just life. When she heard I was having a hysterectomy, she had her husband Steve mail me four giant bags of Circus Peanuts from their local Mennonite store – this is as she is fighting pancreatic cancer! I would appreciate if you would keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she gets ready for her next journey… Thanks friends.

Summer Project Inspiration from Eileen Hull’s Creative Team

16 Jul

The Creative Team July summer project theme is “Summer Vibes”. There are so many possibilities! The team will be creating using current and older dies, so keep an eye out for some inspiring summer ideas and projects – gardens, flowers, beach, sea, travel, sunshine… Let’s check out this week’s inspiration:

Jenny Marples is working on an album celebrating summer. She’s sharing the first part of her Garden Gate journal – the cover. Stay tuned next week for more!

Jennie Atkinson has a beautiful ‘down by the sea’ mixed media journal page to show. Check out her video tutorial below to find out all her techniques!

Lisa Hoel has Part 1 of her summer vacation journal done. She cut the cover using Eileen’s Full Size Journal Die and decorated it with Gel Press prints, stamping and die cuts. (Note Eileen’s Page Edges and Nora Numbers.) More to come!

News from Eileen…

Hey everyone! I am home from vacation and ready to get back in my studio! This is an idea I had while sitting on the beach. I have been trying to write in my journal every day but find that if it’s not right in front of me, I may skip a couple of night because it’s out of sight. Today I am going to make a desk caddy for my journal so it is always visible. I am going to use the Journal die as a base. This should work with many of my dies once you get the basic idea so play around with what you have!

I hope you can catch my livestream from Tuesday! 🙂

Summer Vibes in July – Hot Projects with Eileen Hull

8 Jul

Summer is definitely in full swing and the Creative Team project theme is “Summer Vibes”. The team will be creating using current and older dies, so keep an eye out for some inspiring summer ideas and projects – gardens, flowers, beach, sea, travel, sunshine… so many possibilities! Let’s check out this week’s inspiration:

Sarah Lizzie made this beautiful floral birthday card using Eileen’s new Watercolour Bouquet Embossing Folder and a soft color palette. Find more info on how she made it here.

Pam Bray created colorful and seasonal paper clip enclosures to use in journal projects. She mixed and matched Eileen’s May release and patterned paper to create these sweet pieces. Take a closer look in her post!

Flashback! The summer vibes are strong indeed with this Adirondack Chair Die (from waaaaay back) beach themed project from Lisa Hoel. She also used her Luggage Tag Die to create a shaker tag to commemorate a family vacation to Legoland. You can see more here.

Actual Lego pieces fill the shaker…

In case you missed it…

One Die, Two Ways! Creative Ideas for Journals, Cards & Gifts

30 Jun

Today it’s time for another One Die Two Ways creative session with Margaret and me! Today we are working with old favorites paired with the new ones. Can’t wait to see what interesting combinations are created! Get out your supplies and work along with us – we’d love to see what you make. Please post them in the Eileen Hull Fan Club so we all can see and be inspired 🙂

I hope you were able to catch the live with Guest Designer Cez Tolentino last Friday! I loved hearing about how she is inspired and and seeing what she has created!

More Creative Ideas from the Team!

Our theme this month was “Alphabet Soup”! Projects had a special emphasis on the Nora Alphabet and Numbers Die Sets. We’ve certainly seen a ton of inspiring makes and we have a last few to share this week, plus the round up video.

Lisa Hoel altered a vintage cigar box to make a shadowbox diorama. She used a combination of vintage ephemera, patterned paper and of course the new dies and embossing folder from Eileen’s Sizzix collection! Check out the details here. (Stitched Hearts, Page Edges, Ephemera Pocket & Tags, Nora Alphabet & Numbers sets, Garden Gate, Windowsill Vase & Flowers)

Inspired by wood letterpress blocks, Jenny Marples created a cool and colorful birthday card using the Nora Alphabet and Numbers Die Sets. Find a closer look in her reel!

Elizabeth Robinison has a mini tutorial for you about how she made her alphabet journal cover. Find it here!

More news from Eileen…

Hi all! I am feeling back to normal three weeks post-op. Don’t worry though – I am still getting my naps and not moving any furniture around 🙂 We are getting ready for our annual family Fourth of July beach trip. Looks like we are at 6 adults and 8 kids at the house – quite a houseful 🙂 I am bringing Daisy (my new/old trailer) and parking her behind the house for Trinity and her friend Charlotte to stay in – they can’t wait!

I am bringing supplies for the kids and I to create with so if I do a live next week, it could be a little loud and crazy. Since we will not be on a regular schedule, the live may not be at the usual time so make sure you are signed up for notifications, that way you will know when we are going live… Stay tuned!

I finished the Stitched Hearts project we created on Tuesday and just wanted you to see how they came out. I went down the rabbit hole and made a bunch of paper beads (thanks to a suggestion from someone in the chat). Let me know if you’d like a quick tutorial on how to make them – they are really easy and I like that you can make them to coordinate with the paper line you are working with!
