It’s the Designer Crafts Connection monthly posting day! Make sure to stop by all of the designer’s blogs for a look at some great projects. Click on the blue button on the sidebar for a look. The topic today is journaling but my crafty adventures took me in a different direction. I have always loved stitching and last week I discovered a new craft (to me, anyway).
I went to Michael’s the other day with my daughter. She was looking for a cross stitch sampler design that she could work on for her baby due in June. Being the helpful mother I am, I was diligently rooting through all of the books and kits that I thought Jess might like. I happened to come across a book on Punch Needle Embroidery. The projects fascinated me but the technique sounded fairly simple to do. After combing three aisles looking for a the required punch needle tool, I came up empty handed… so I came home and found supplies on line and ordered a kit and tools.
It arrived on Friday and by Saturday night I had finished it. It’s addicting. Here’s a pic of my first project (which I did when I was supposed to be making samples for CHA). There are some mistakes but overall I love the colors and fun bumpy texture of it. And no, you may not see the back of it!
Now to figure out how to finish it... any suggestions?

LOL – I did this in the 70’s. Back then we called it Russian Needle Punch and, yes, I still have my tools. It’s the best thing for creating Santa beards and the hair for Raggedy Ann and Andy. I used it as an accent only. It works great on felt and any tight weave fabrics 🙂

I recently discovered cross stitching! New is always addictive! this is really pretty and looks like a lot of fun! I vote finish the background and make a sweet little pillow front out of it! (maybe even fill it with lavender!)

Great idea to use as accents Julie. Also like the idea of Kerry’s to fill in and make a pillow. I am stull nursing my war wounds where I punched my finger in with the needle so maybe after CHA…

It’s very pretty! I think it will be a nice spring decor item framed-up or you could lined it and turn it into a cool tote bag. 🙂

Hi Eileen!
I met you at the CHA round table today! And then I noticed on your business card that you were from Herndon, and I thought, Hey! Pat Sloan lives in Herndon…. but I see you already knew that! I love Pat, she is great fun.
I also do punch needle and design some punch needle patterns- you are right, it is kind of addictive….
