As some of you know, I recently purchased a vintage trailer. Turns out, there is a silver lining to the government shutdown- having a very handy and smart husband who is now home! Today we went up and looked at the roof of the trailer and really checked it out. Boo- not too good 🙁 This was not really a surprise because there was water damage inside.
There were places where the caulking was black and peeling so we started scraping and taking off the bad stuff. Then we were off to Lowe’s to buy some TSP to clean the roof with, Kilz for the interior, sealer for the top, brush to put it on with, a replacement light, etc.
After stopping for hot dogs at Costco, we returned home and washed the roof of the trailer with a cleaning solution. It is looking much better. Not sure why we picked the 85 degree day to do this but it’s done! Tonight it is drying out and on to Phase 2 tomorrow…
I took a video of the inside last week and went to post it and could not find it. Did another video and of course found the fist one. So this was pretty much how it looked when I got it, horrible curtains and all…
Let me know if you have any tips- I am new to this and figuring things out as I go.
Thanks for all of your name suggestions on Facebook today. I was reading them to my husband as we sweated away and it was fun to hear them as they came in. Stay tuned for more adventures…

Such a sweet little camper, makes me want one, too! I’m always looking! this one would be light enough for us to tow on our SUV, too!
Can’t wait to see it all finished with your cute touches!

Loved the walk-through of your cute little Scottie. It really brings back a lot of memories for me. I know you will have lots of fun redecorating it. TFS

I did not have sound on when I watched the video so forgive me if you answered this already-are you going to use it for camping or for crafting?
Love it by the way-wish I had one!!

What a great video and thanks for the little tour. Love your cute little Scottie, Eileen! I would paint the inside too and pull out things to make yet more storage space. Most anything looks great with a new, fresh coat of paint;) You could also add cork board over portions so you could post notes or photos up! Lucky gal that you have a handy hubby to help you fix her up. So many possibilities. Soooo much fun!!!
Please post another video for all of us who would LOVE to see what you do with it.

The more I look through the feedback for names…the more I like the simply stated ‘Scotty.’ HA No matter what you call it, it’s yours and adorable….and going to be inspiration for everything you create in it! LOVE it…..

I love Scotty so much! So happy you were able to get it! Yes yes and yes to paint! It’s beautiful in its own vintage charming way but once you put your own touches on it will be gorgeous! I would maybe decoupage the cabinets with pretty paper or even die cuts from your collections . I wish I lived closer I have my paint brush ready to go 🙂

Oh Eileen – I LOVE LOVE LOVE caravans (as they are called in the UK).
We had one some 18 years ago and only went away in it once. My husband hated it but things like that really appeal to me!
It was only 10′ long. Yes ten feet long!!! but there was me and hubby, and our 2.5 years old at the time – although I was about 13 weeks pregnant with my second son. We went to Devon from Derbyshire – quite a hike (nothing like a massive road trip in the State though lol)!!!
OMG – I can just imagine this all kitted out in a lovely shabby chic style decor – white walls, pink lilacs, blues and greens and floral floral floral upholstery.
My BIL totally renovated our little caravan then we bought an awning to zip on it too. 18 years on, I’d love to do it again, but it’s just not my hubby’s thing!!! Can I please come over to your van and sit in there with you, we could sip orange juice and have cream buns and craft or blog – not bothered which one! lol.
Please can you put progress videos up, I really want to see what you do with it – have fun
