Sorry to be lagging behind in my posts. This happened over a week ago!
We literally rolled out of my daughter’s driveway in Pembroke Pines, FL last Wednesday, September 10… and drove on up the road to Cheryl Boglioli’s home in Port St. Lucie.
There we got some last minute items for the next leg of the trip. Wednesday night was the Art Mundo Art Walk. What a fabulous place! I was so interested to see everyone’s work and creative spaces. After a quick tour of the gallery, we made a quick video in Cheryl’s studio. See it here.
Then it was down to the event! There were lots of people- everyone seemed excited to be there. Many people stopped and watched the demo and we handed out about 25 kits- each containing all five sizes of blocks. It will be so exciting to see what each of the Art Mundo artists makes from the Sizzix Artist Trading Blocks! The Artist Trading Block Gallery Show will be on Wednesday, October 8.
We packed up our gear and were ready to depart for the home of our friend Joanne Fink of Zenspirations and were even ahead of schedule. We pulled out of the gallery and had only gone a few blocks when I noticed flashing lights behind us. I pulled over but could not figure out what I had done… One policeman came up to my window and one to Cheryl’s- he said that the running lights on the trailer were not working. Shoot- they were working just fine on the way down to Florida! I gave him my license so he could run a check. It seemed to be taking a long time, but eventually they returned. Apparently they had tried fiddling with the electric cord connecting the truck with the trailer, but to no avail… no lights. He returned with a warning and said that should help us in case we were stopped on the way to Orlando. Cheryl called one of her friends from the gallery who knew something about cars to see if he could take a look. We pulled into the parking lot of a nearby store (called Papa’s Meats!) to wait for him to get there. The police cruiser came in after us and they told us that we were to leave the lot immediately- if we didn’t, guys with masks and big guns would come to see us. AHHHH! Off we went back to the gallery. Cheryl’s friend was not able to fix the lights but he advised us to visit an auto parts store the following day and have them run a diagnostic. NOTE- I asked the young officers if I could take a pic for the blog but they said it was not recommended so I didn’t. But this is the glare of their headlights in my rearview mirror. They really were nice and I am glad they advised us to move along. I am so glad Cheryl was with me!
Oh boy… Thankfully the rest of the trip was uneventful. We arrived at Joanne’s late but it was OK because she is a night owl like me and is usually up till the wee hours.
The next morning we were up and on the road to She Scrapbooks for a quick demo that turned into a long demo.
There was a great turnout and we had three tables showing different projects on at once.
Cheryl was showing the soon-to-be-released Recipe Card Box and Recipe Card and Label dies
from my new collection Vintage Kitchen and I was demoing the Mini-Album
and my Clearsnap Color Box Blends inks.
Here’s a little more info in case you have not seen these yet- they have been very popular along the tour!
ColorBox® Crafter’s ink in an easy-to-hold, innovative applicator! Developed by popular artist Eileen Hull for Clearsnap®, ColorBox® Blends holds more than 10x the ink of a traditional inkpad. Convenient foam sponge applicator keeps hands clean while applying ink directly to fabric, paper, wood, clay and more. Heat set for permanence.
Joanne was lettering signs for people and talking about her latest book. We met lots of new friends and got some pics in front of Scotty.
After the demo we went into the town and I was blown away. It is a retirement community, but that place was ROCKING! First of all, there were golf carts lining the streets. And I don’t mean regular golf carts- these were totally tricked out.
Every one had the owners’ names on it, bling, lights, bright colors, custom paint jobs- you name it! We ate at a restaurant in town and thought we should check out the band that was playing on the bandstand.
They were good but what was even more amazing was the number of people that were out there line dancing. I’m not kidding- there had to be four hundred people out there just having a great old time! There were some cute shops and we stopped in. Joanne got a few things and Cheryl bought a shirt. Although I didn’t buy anything, the lady kindly gave me a bag for the photo 🙂
After we left The Villages, we went to Advanced Auto Parts to see about the running lights. There was a very nice guy named Cory who came out to Big Daddy and took a look. He determined it was a fuse that had blown and that’s why the running lights were out. He replaced it for $1.22 and we were back on the road! I have a picture of Cory and I but can’t find it- it might be on Cheryl’s camera… I was so excited and bless Cory for his help to this worried traveler. Needless to say I picked up some extra fuses…
Visit Joanne’s blog to see more pics and info on our visit. The last thing that happened before I departed to teach at A Small Cleverness was that Joanne lettered on Scotty!
I love it and so does Scotty- thanks so much Joanne!
Joanne is launching a Kickstarter on September 21. Stay tuned for more details coming soon…
And now there’s a highway calling my name- more later!

You are my HERO! I can’t even imagine taking off on a cross country tour with a truck and trailer (let alone a working when it feels like it trailer). But there you are, meeting new people, making new friends, depending on the kindness of strangers(wasn’t that a line from a movie?) and non-stop working. I am surprised the officers didn’t ask for a demo on your paper crafty goodness! lol
Safe travels as you continue your journey! I love hearing your stories. 🙂
