#PaperTrail Day 1
Finally, I am almost on the road!
And here is the surprise destination to kick off the #PaperTrail in grand style… are you ready?
I am headed to the studio of Kathy Davis for a one on one meeting with her! Kathy is one of America’s leading social expressions designers. Chances are good that at some point, you have given or received Kathy’s artwork in the form of greeting cards, fabric, bank checks, calendars, or gifts. Kathy sells 40,000 cards a day! Last year, her sales of licensed goods exceeded $100 million at retail.
GULP. I am not sure I know what to say to her- I feel like I have an audience with the Pope! But when I look at her art, and I have to think that it reflects her personality, I see a kind and gentle soul who appreciates the beauty in people and nature and wants to share it with others. Not so scary…
Kathy has a new book out entitled, Scatter Joy. It looks beautiful and I want to pick a few up- I know my Mom would like one.
A little more about Kathy Davis Studios…
Headquartered in Horsham, PA., Kathy Davis Studios, Inc., is one of the nation’s leading design companies in the greeting card and gift industries. Selling millions of licensed products worldwide annually, Kathy Davis Studios, Inc. is led by Chief Visionary Officer, Kathy Davis.
Through its extensive collection of 20,000 designs and messages, the company has an array of licensed merchandise such as greeting cards, fabric, bank checks, calendars, and gifts.

You may be wondering how it happened that I was granted this meeting. Well, funny story. One night I was goofing off on Facebook and happened to see a photo of a studio being organized by a FB friend called CardMonkey Jarvis. You have to love her name! Anyway I noticed that she lived in PA which is nearby so I suggested that her new studio might be a stop on the #PaperTrail. She said that would be fine but that she knew of a place I really should get to- and that was the studio of Kathy Davis! She even had a friend who was a VP there and she would see if she (and he) could pull some strings and get me in for a tour. So I said YES! Do it CardMonkey! And she did!
So that is how I will be meeting with Kathy Davis at 9:30 AM. Facebook, you rock!
CardMonkey, aka Ellen, and I will be doing some fun things during the day and then she has gathered a group of crafty friends together for some die cutting and crafting from 6-8 PM. That is, unless Ellen’s daughter, who is attending the event, goes into labor! Talk about an exciting day… 🙂
Check out Ellen’s blog post about the details if you would like to sign up. There were a few spots left last night so check it out if you are anywhere near Warminster PA.
I will let you know what happens. Right now I am loading up the last batch of boxes, suitcases, etc. and getting ready to drive tonight. Then I will be close to where I need to be in the morning and won’t have to deal with traffic.
Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for BTS shots.
The adventure begins! Stay tuned my friends…
The #PaperTrail Itinerary and Mystery Celebrity First Stop
I can’t remember the last time I had to pack for a month away from home! But it’s happening…On Monday, June 2, I am headed out for four weeks on the#PaperTrail adventure! My 1976 trailer, Scotty, is loaded up with crafty goodness and vintage suitcases full of inspirational samples. I will be visiting twelve independent craft stores and teaching classes featuring my licensed craft products: Sizzix dies, Clearsnap inks and CraffitiDirect stamps. You will be seeing it all- a snapshot of life on the road because I will be blogging and keeping you updated on social media. So I hope you will follow the #PaperTrail with me on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
There are a few reasons I want to share this adventure with you… but one of them is… quite honestly, I am a little nervous about it all, and I sure would feel better to know that I had some friends riding along with me. Please feel free to grab a button and post it on your blog or Facebook and invite your friends to follow along as well- the more the merrier. All are welcome!
Here’s the map of where I am headed. You can click on the red pins and that will show you the name of the event and location- I love Google Maps!

The East Coast #PaperTrail Adventure
Hi everyone! I chugged into town last Friday morning after being on the first #PaperTrail adventure for nine days. The trip went really well- my only disappointment was not having enough time to post everything in real time. I learned a lot about what worked and what didn’t so am sure that my next jaunt will be even better.
To catch up with where we are on the #PaperTrail, read my posts here and here. When I say we, I am referring to my #papertrail companions- Amy Bowerman of Plucking Daisies and Anita Houston, the Artful Maven. [Read more…]
The #Papertrail is underway
Today is Day 4 of the #Papertrail. It was suggested by my husband that I write a post and let you all know how things are going… so here goes.
I left Virginia on Wednesday, March 26 at about 1:00 PM and had an uneventful trip to NY (uneventful is a very good thing!) I arrived at my mom’s at around 9 PM. The only thing that happened on the trip was I almost lost my little Scotty emblem which was hanging by a screw on the back of the camper. I must not have tightened the screw up enough when I reattached it after painting. Luckily my husband had packed me a nice tool bag so I took it off and decided to keep an eye out for a Home Depot where I could find another screw.
Thursday morning was just beautiful and I made my way to the home of my fellow #papertrailer Amy Bowerman. We quickly loaded up her stuff in the camper and made our way to the Great American Stamp Store where we were meeting Marjie Riordan Kemper for lunch. Lesson of the day (LOD)- always allow extra time because it will take you longer than you think to get somewhere. Also sometimes the GPS lies.
I was very excited to meet my new friend Orla Carey who was able to join us for lunch. While we were sitting there gobbling down our quesedillas in the nearby restaurant that looked like a barn, we were also joined by my good friend Theresa Cifali of Bella Crafts Quarterly! Thankfully we were able to eat in about 20 minutes and get next door to the store where we were greeted by a table full of ladies who were wanting to get their die cutting on! We met Judy, the owner of the store and she welcomed us and away we went! We had quite a crowd and remembered to get a group pic before everyone left. Many thanks to Amy, Marjie and Theresa for getting everything out of the camper, taking pictures, helping the eager make and takers to create their projects and joining in the fray. We had a really fun time and this store is HUGE! Lots of fun stuff here! If you live anywhere nearby you should try to get over and have a look. Marjie is teaching a cool melt art class there in a little bit and her samples were amazing.
Once we were done, we loaded up the camper and waited for word from Anita Houston, the last #Papertrailer to arrive. We were to pick her up in Bridgeport where the limo was bringing her from LaGuardia. There was some delay as her driver was not going over 40 MPH on Rt. 95. This did not sit well with Anita but she texted us updates and we sat in Big Daddy and caught up on our social media. I will say right now it is not easy to do the actual event and at the same real time post about it. I have a new respect for tweeters and FBer’s who can keep up.
I was honored to receive Norman the Gnome from Amy as a gift for the trip. He came with his own mini-camper which Amy painted to match Scotty. So cute! Little did we know that a few nights later Norm would be getting a makeover… He travels with us everywhere and joined us for pizza at Frank Pepe’s. It was excellent! (Norm is in the green bag)
I am going to continue this but first need to get some sleep and prepare for the day that will be starting in just a few hours. More later my friends. Thanks for following the #Papertrail!
