The video below was taken after the Paper Trail 3. Scotty was hit in Utah and the decision had to be made as to whether it was worth it to keep the trailer or buy another one. Read about it here. Would you have kept it or traded it in? Take a look at the “before” video and stay tuned for the “after”.
Major problems after my last 5500 mile trip in September/October 2015- ack! My mechanic brother-in-law came down for Thanksgiving and took a look underneath Scotty and found out that the shocks and suspension were totally shot! The trailer was riding right over the wheel well and had been bumping it and causing lots of shaking and tire wear. Another problem was that the oven, where I stored my paper, got too heavy and broke a strut which pushed the wall of the trailer out from the base and when you looked underneath you could see the ground!
We found a place not too far away that could do the work- American Truck and Tire in Manassas, VA. They put in a new suspension and shocks, new brakes on the trailer and welded the side back on the the floor AND got in done in 2 weeks!
Can you say MONEY PIT?
Now for the inside… the cabinet that housed the kitchen part- oven, stove and sink- was falling apart. Not to blame the Scotty folks for using cheap materials- the trailer was built to be light and not meant to be hauling heavy dies, paper and craft tools! But something had to be done- the wood was falling apart. I approached my Coast Guard SIL Jason who is quite the woodworker… He was up for the challenge and did an absolutely fantastic job in a very short period of time. (I owe them major babysitting!) If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you might see Scotty and I passing through in September- October 2016! There are four states I have not visited yet- North Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Oregon. I hope to make it through them and then I will have all 50 states under my belt! I will be adding stores and dates and they are confirmed.
